Coming 2 America | Highly anticipated sequel is back

When the African King Akeem learns about his long-lost son, he embarks on a new adventure to bring him back.

Coming to America (1988) was a super hit film and one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time. Thanks to Eddie Murphy and other cast members, filmmakers, and writers. The film grossed more than $288 million worldwide. It was a cultural phenomenon and widely praised by the audience around the globe.

After 32 years, the much-anticipated sequel of epic comedy film is finally here. In Coming 2 America, Eddie Murphy returns to one of his most appreciated roles as King Akeem, and he is helping his newfound son prepare to be king.

The former prince and newly crowned king of Zamunda is once-again setting out on a journey to America. It happens when he discovers he has a son in America he never knew about.

His Father’s wish

So honoring his royal father’s dying wish, he embarks on a new adventure and sets off to America, along with his confidante Semmi to look for his lost son. He managed to bring him back to the fictional city Zamunda.

Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, it looks like that film will explore Zamunda in a way that the original movie couldn’t. Besides this, the 1988 film took place in New York City, but now, most of the film action will take place in Africa.

Although the storyline of the film relies heavily on comedy, there is also a political intrigue. As General Izzi wants to take over Zamunda, it would be interesting to see how the king cops up with him. However, the most compelling part of the film is the chemistry among different characters. Their intriguing comedy and punch lines will take the audience back to the Zamunda, and there would be a lot of comedy and drama to entertain the audience of all ages.

Original Cast

The sequel will bring some other stars of the original film, including Shari Headley, John Amos, Vanessa Bell Calloway, James Earl Jones, and Paul Bates. And the audience will also get to see some old characters, such as the funk band the Randy Watson Experience and the Queen barbershop owners.

New Cast

There are few new faces to breathe new life into the film. Leslie Jones and Jermaine Fowler will play vital roles in Akeem’s past. The other cast includes KiKi Layne, Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, Bella Murphy, David Sheffield, and more.

Screenplay by Kenya Barris of Blackish, along with David Sheffield Barry W. Blaustein. The film was to released theatrically by Paramount Pictures. Now the distribution rights are acquired by Amazon Studios. And Amazon has set to release the film digitally on Amazon Prime video on March 5, 2020.
