These last ten years have often been the protagonists of numerous sequels/reboots of cult films. This trend involves the decade of the 80s especially. We have seen a female “Ghostbusters”; and the likes of “Top Gun: Maverick” and much more to come. “Coming 2 America” is a sequel to the well-known film “Coming to America 1988.” Which still has a large following among fans of comedy and Eddy Murphy’s. in most cases, sequels are not always successful. Instead, in fact, most of the time, they are disappointing. This seems to have happened with “Coming 2 America”.
The critics and the audience’s reactions
After the debut on streaming platforms, Rottentomatoes came out with some press reviews. The average vote resulting from the examined 91 reviews decrees a reaction “below the sufficiency,” with an average of 52%. Things are even worse regarding the approval of the public that has stood at 44%. This weekend, it will be showing at the Vineland Drive-In in Los Angeles, at the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema, and the Starlight Drive-In in Atlanta.
