Even a pandemic cannot stop the Hollywood machine. The awards season was not as sure as usual: ceremonies are difficult to organize. The health emergency has made the normal difficulties even worse. And yet on February 28th, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be the hosts of the Golden Globes night.
Cinema absences and surprises

We are going to miss some important absences of this edition, both in cinema and especially in TV nominations. Speaking of cinema, it has been a surprise to find “Promising Young Woman” among the best drama motion pictures, as well as to not find the Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods”. Among the absences we do not find on the list Sofia Coppola’s latest film “On The Rocks” which has been well judged by critics. It took its place the film of the now important Ryan Murphy: “The Prom”, which seemed to have disappointed everyone. There is on the list one of the favourites to win: “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” by Sacha Baron Cohen. We can find disappointing the actors and actresses’ nominations too: no recognition for Zendaya in “Malcolm & Marie”.
TV absences and surprises
One of the biggest absences of the 78th Golden Globe Awards is “I May Destroy You”. Created and written by Michaela Coel for BBC One and HBO, this audio-visual product has been most appreciated by critics. Many expected at least a couple of nominations, and yet it was not so. All this sparked a lot of controversy. Deborah Copaken, one of the screenwriters of “Emily in Paris”, pointed out this important absence despite she worked for the Netflix series. That is certain. Hollywood always surprises, often even in a negative way.
