House of the Dragon: Do you find yourself re-watching episodes of Game of  Thrones because you miss it so much? Well, I have good news for you. Finally, the long-awaited GOT Prequel, House of the Dragon, is being released on HBO Max. When the exciting, award-winning Game of Thrones series ended back in March of 2019, fans thought they would never experience George R.R Martin’s world ever again.

However, that was not the case since viewers will get pulled back into the epic world in just a few months. This article will tell you everything we know about the upcoming HBO series, House of Dragon.

What is the plot of the prequel?

According to HBO, the series will focus on the House of Targaryen, which, as you might know, is where Queen Daenerys and John Snow are from. House of the Dragon events will be set approximately 300 years before what happened in Game of Thrones. It will be based on one of  George R.R Martin’s books named; Fire & Blood. This novel begins with Aegon I Targereyan’s conquest of the seven kingdoms of Westeros up to the reign of Aegon III Targaryen.

The HBO series will dive deeper into the epic battles that happened during the Targereyan reign. Plus, many will be looking forward to the beautiful dragons known to belong to House Targaryan. The book covers close to seven generations from the white-haired family who have an epic story ready to be told. Due to the vast amount of stories, HBO has said that it hopes to reach five seasons with House of the Dragon. Which all depends on how well it will perform with audiences.

Who are the actors cast in House of the Dragon?

Viewers will be excited about the fresh cast coming into the House of Dragon series. Just how Game of Thrones introduced us to talented upcoming actors like Emilia Clarke and Sophie Turner. So far, we know the plot will follow the House Targaryen, so most of the cast will revolve around their characters. House of Dragon has a talented cast to carry it through the ten episodes ordered by HBO. They include Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

According to the books, the Targaryen princess is a dragon rider, so viewers might see Emma on a few flying dragons. Matt Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, another heir to the iron throne. Fabien Frankel is cast as Ser Criston Cole, whose story is similar to that of  Jon Snow. Unlike the others, Cole has no wealth and is only skilled with a sword. Other actors in House of the Dragon include; Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, and Milly Alcock, to name a few.

Production Team Behind The Prequel.

House of Dragon began filming in 2021 using locations in UK, Spain, and California.  The upcoming fantasy series has award-winning director Miguel Sapochnik at the helm. GOT fans can trust him to deliver since he has worked on hit shows like 2013’s Banshee, 2017’s Iron Fist, and around six episodes of Game of Thrones. To direct alongside Miguel are Claire Kilner and Greg Yaitanes. Apart from R.R. Martin, the House of the Dragon series was co-created by the talented Ryan Condal, who is also responsible for working on exciting projects like 2016’s Colony and  Hercules.

Remember the outstanding music from Game of Thrones that evoked so much emotion in every episode? Ramin Djawadi, who worked on GOT, will return for House of the Dragon. According to Deadline, the series has had to stop filming a few times because of the pandemic. When a few people on set got Covid, filming had to be paused for a few days. For the safety of the entire production team, cast and crew. The series’ executive producers include; Vince Gerardis, Sarah Lee Hess, and Ron Shmidt.

Will It Be Better Than Last Season of GOT?

All GOT fans remember how lousy season 8 was, and we don’t want a re-run of that dumpster fire. Since HBO spent close to 15 million dollars on the last episode of Game of Thrones, the streaming giant will no doubt pull out all the stops for House of the Dragon. HBO will not want to risk angering the GOT fanbase or, worse, losing them entirely. To prevent this from happening, HBO signed creator Geroge R.R. Martin to stay on to guide the production of House of the Dragon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin signed a five-year deal for eight figures at HBO. He will also play a huge part in the streaming platform’s other Game of Thrones spinoffs in production. Like House of the Dragon, the other spin-offs will focus on other Houses and characters at different times. They include; Flea Bottom, The Sea Snake, Nymeria Project, Dunk and Egg Project, and a GOT animated series. With the best-selling author on their side, there is hope all these projects will be as good as the first four seasons of Game of Thrones. The one’s George R.R Martin helped to create, of course.

When Is House of the Dragon Releasing?

With all the information we have provided, you are undoubtedly already excited about the House of the Dragon series. HBO released the first look photos and bio description of the main characters on their site, and it was everything we expected it to be. Behind the actors, you could see the breathtaking locations, just like what we came to love about Game of Thrones. The series’ opening title scene also showed the Targaryen sigil of Fire & Blood.

Hopefully, all the delays in filming will not disrupt the release date HBO announced to fans. The trailer is expected to drop before the end of 2020  to build anticipation for its release. As of now, it remains the ten-episode fantasy series will premiere sometime in April of 2022. Similar to when Game of Thrones seasons used to release.
