Mindhunter is one of the most popular serial killer drama series of all time, and this masterwork definitely deserves every bit of praise that it receives. What makes Mindhunter such a special show is the fact that it focuses on the realistic aspects of crime and law and shows us the reality of this cruel and menacing world.
Today, I’m going to give you guys my review of the first two seasons of Mindhunter and all of its many amazing aspects.
MINDHUNTER PLOT:
Our main protagonist in the series is a young man named Holden Ford, who is a pretty capable FBI agent. Unlike most FBI investigators, Holden doesn’t just view serial murderers as extremely vicious beings who were just born evil people. Holden believes that different aspects of the lives of these individuals are responsible for most of the crimes committed by them. Whether it be an intelligent serial killer like Edmund Kemper or some absolute degenerate like Jerry Brudos, Holden finds them extremely fascinating, and he wants to understand the thought-process of each and every one of these serial murderers.

In the show, Holden Ford, along with his teammates Bill Tench and Wendy Carr, is a part of the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI. The job of these three FBI agents is to interview serial killers all over America and figure out why they do what they do. The show gets pretty interesting when we see our favorite group of investigators use some tactics formed because of these interviews in actual cases.
CHARACTERS:
With a very complicated plot and story that blends fiction and real-life events together to give us something completely new and interesting, of course, you’d also need some of the most well-written characters of all time. And thankfully, Mindhunter does not disappoint! The characters in this Netflix series are absolutely brilliant. None of them seems to be too straightforward as all of them have their own dynamic and realistic personalities.
The only complaint that I have regarding this aspect of the show is that some of the fictional criminals did not get enough screen-time, especially the serial murderer that appeared close to the finale of season 2.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the best characters from the series that were played by the most brilliant actors!
Holden Ford:
I already talked a lot about our main protagonist in the plot section. Holden is pretty different from the other FBI agents that just try to follow procedures and listen to their higher-ups. This man tends to always follow his intuition, and he might even break a lot of rules. At times, we can see that Holden even tends to get a bit too overconfident and makes mistakes, but the guy is still pretty reliable and shows great promise.
Bill Tench:
Without the help of Bill Tench, Holden would’ve never been able to interview all the different serial killers without losing his job. Bill openly vouches for Holden as often as he can, and he also tends to keep Holden under control. While Holden is good at communicating with murderers and understanding them, Bill is good at communicating with normal people. This makes these two the ultimate duo.
Wendy Carr:
Wendy Carr is the third main character in the series, and she also helps Holden and Ford understand all the serial killers that they interview. Wendy doesn’t directly interact with the criminals at the start, but we do start to see some action from her in the second season. This woman is quite brilliant, and she handles her job pretty responsibly. While Bill seems to trust Holden’s way of dealing with criminals, Wendy is quite often not too impressed and asks him to follow the guidelines.
