The popular Cartoon Network animated series ‘The Powerpuff Girls tv show is being reincarnated as a live-action show on CW. We first look at the girls courtesy of an Instagram post by Dove Cameron, who plays Bubbles.
Dove Cameron’s Instagram post introduces the three girls in their adolescent years with a touch of their signature colored clothing. Paying homage to their original cartoon characters, the three girls here don clothing inspired by their cartoon counterparts. Chloe Bennet will play Blossom; Dove Cameron will take on the role of Bubbles, while Yana Perrault will play buttercup. As far as the additional cast is concerned, Professor Utonium will be brought to life by Donald Faison, while Nicholas Podany will play arch-villain Mojo’s son. Tom Kenny, the original narrator, also returns to narrate our three superpowered heroines’ adventures in this CW adaptation.
The Original Powerpuff Girls
The Powerpuff Girls tv show originally ran on the Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2005. They chronicled the life and times of three superpowered girls, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, as they fought crime in the fictional city of Townsville, USA. With Professor Utonium and the Mayor supporting them at every turn, the girls go up against a myriad of villains from arch-nemesis Mojo Jojo to their evil male clones, the Rowdyruff Boys. The show was top-rated and spawned an animated film, a series of anime novels, and even a series of video games based on the three popular characters.
How is the CW reboot different from the original?
The CW reboot of this popular show finds the Powerpuff Girls in their teenage years as they settle into adolescence and face issues and problems teenagers find themselves in. The three superpowered ladies’ costumed adventures will be very much a part of the show, albeit in flashbacks to the past.
While the original show illustrated the three girls as an unbreakable team who always found a way to beat the bad guys despite the considerable differences in their personalities, the CW reboot will find the girls alone and trying to live their lives beyond the Powerpuff persona. With a significant threat about to engulf the world into chaos again, the three girls would have to find a way to set aside their differences and come together to save the world once again.
Fans reaction to the powerpuff girls tv show
The audience response to the first official look has been mixed, to say the least. While some fans are interested in the new direction that the creators are trying to take the franchise, older fans who grew up with the cartoons feel both the premise and the costumes look too different when compared to the original cartoon.
The CW television series Powerpuff girls tv show is currently shooting and is expected to debut on the CW sometime in the fall.
