The second trailer of Raya and the Last Dragon has released. Featuring a fantastic new princess Raya, this computer-animated action-fantasy film scheduled to release theatrically on March, 5th 2021.

Synopsis

Raya and the Last Dragon is one of the major films to release in the first half of 2021. Releasing under the banner of Walt Disney Studio Motion Pictures, it looks stunning and a fun movie.

Set in the fictional fantasy land called Kumandra, Raya and the Last Dragon is Disney’s first southeast Asian-centered animated film. The story of the film got inspiration from the Southeast Asian Culture. And it unfolds the fantasy world of kumara where humans and dragons lived together in harmony. However, this peace is interrupted when the sinister monster Druun threatens the land, and as a result, dragons sacrifice themselves to save humanity. Now the monsters have returned after some 500 years. It’s up to princess Raya- the lone warrior, to track down the last dragon, and save her kingdom.  

Newly release trailer

The newly released trailer of Raya and the Last Dragon gives a more in-depth look at the film. In the trailer, Princess Raya is putting together a crew of warriors and con artists on a quest to find the titular last dragon. This mythical last dragon is said to save her people. But with time, it would be interesting to see how Raya finds him and how the Dragon Sisu saves her and the kingdom.

Direction, Production, and Cast 

Directed by Don Hall and Carlos Lopez, Raya, and The Last Dragon is the 59th film produced by the Walt Disney Animation studio. The movie got inspiration from Southeast Asian Culture. The production team and the filmmakers conducted extensive research by traveling and exploring different Southeast Asian cultures, including Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. 

Furthermore, coming from the pen off Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim, producer Osnat Shurer and Peter Del Vecho have put their effort into producing the film. And one of the salient features that distinguish this film from others is its cast. Featuring an entirely Asian American cast. The two eminent voices include Kelly Marie Tran as the titular Raya and Awkwafina as Sisu, the last dragon.

The other voice cast includes Kelly Marie Tran as Raya, Gemma Chan as Namaari, Sandra Oh as Virana, Daniel Dae Kim as Chief Benja, Raya’s Father, and Benedict Wong as Tong, a formidable giant.

Release date and Platforms

Initially, the movie scheduled to release on November 25, 2020. The film then delayed to March 12, 2021, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, Disney’s investor Day presentation held on December 10, 2020. The film pushed back by a week. Now it is likely to hit the big screen on March 5, 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 impact on the film industry, Raya and the Last Dragon will be simultaneously available on Disney Plus with Premier Access the same day. It means the subscriber can watch the film on the streaming platform concurrently with its theatrical release. Although Disney has yet to say how much it will cost the subscriber to watch this film, fans should expect around $30 premium fee.
