Suicide Squad 2: Star Cast, Trailer, Release Date, and Everything You Need to Know

Suicide Squad 2 will be hitting theatres pretty soon! With all the trailers, teasers, and hype surrounding James Gunn’s latest entry into comic book media, you will finally be able to forget that the 2016 Suicide Squad ever existed. With an impressive and expansive cast, a better direction under the eyes of the director who made Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as positive early reviews from select critics, DC is about to hit it off with a bang! As for the newcomers or people who never saw the first movie, we will summarize everything you need to know if you’re a newcomer to DC or anything comic-book movie-related.

Who’s in the Star Cast of The Suicide Squad 2 Movie?

Like the one before, this movie sees the return of DC’s various villains come to life in live-action. Among the returning cast are Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jay Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag. The return of these villains confirms that the film is set within the same continuity as the prior film, all the while being its own film as it’s been confirmed not to reference past events. Doing so apparently lets Gunn tell a more cohesive story with fewer loose ends to reference.

Suicide squad 2’s newcomers, we have Idris Elba joining as Blood-Sport who fills the same archetype as Deadshot from the last film, though his character is said to have been in prison for a feat as grandeur as shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet. We also see the addition of Michael Rooker as Savant the blackmailer and Gunn’s brother (who motion captured for Groot in Guardians of the galaxy) as Weasel.” Some of the more obscure villains that audiences see for the first time include Ratcatcher 2, played by Daniela Malchior, PolkaDot-man played by David Dastmalchian, Pete Davison’s Blackguard. Nathan Fillion’ T.D.K and Peter Capaldi’s “The Thinker.”

Among more promising new characters to Suicide squad 2 is Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, who, as you guessed right, is a giant humanoid shark. This character has recently been popular owing to his appearance in the Harley Quinn animated series on HBOMAX. And lastly, we have John Cena joining as Peace-Maker, a douchebag, gun-slinging version of Captain America.

The Suicide Squad 2 Trailer Review

So far, three trailers have been released, showcasing the basic premise of the film. The movie has a squad of villains as Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller recruits them to assemble for a dangerous mission that drops them on the hostile island of Corto Maltese, where they are to search and destroy the happenings of a secret experiment. Each of our protagonists has had their necks implanted with a deadly chip that will explode should they choose to disobey any orders or attempt to flee the confines of the mission. The movie also promises that more than half of the villain cast will die, so don’t get attached too easily.

The tone of the movie has been described as a “gritty 1970’s war movie. “That is to be even crazier thanks to the dangerous mind of James Gunn. We can even see how wild, bloody, and action-heavy the film is set to be, given that we see King Shark swallow a man alive and rip another person in half. The dialogue further warrants the R rating as we see Cena’s Peace-Maker claim how he would have no problem with eating every dick on a beach ” in the name of liberty. ”

However, the film isn’t just a maniacal showcase of brawns, and this isn’t a Michael Bay movie. We see glimpses of characters bonding in the trailer, such as Blood-Sport and Rat-Catcher 2 exchanging a heart to heart or King Shark while still being a violent behemoth, still retaining a cute, childish persona as if he were the group’s child in spirit. Being a James Gunn movie, we are sure to see him fully unleashed with action and meaningful character interactions intermingled to give us a dramatic work of art.

When is The Suicide Squad 2 Releasing?

The film is currently set to premiere on August 6, 2021, in both theatres and on HBOMAX for streaming. We may be in luck as theatres have finally started to open their gates, so definitely buy your tickets asap! It will leave HBOMAX a month after release, so be sure to watch it fast.
