After the Winx Club, even the Powerpuff Girls will have their live-action debut. Unlike the show that landed on Netflix, this project less substantial for various reasons. It does not have true mythology, while the Winx animated show had a relevant narrative context. If you do not remember the story of this animated series, don’t worry! It is about three super girls born in the lab who fight crime. That’s all.

The differences between the animated series and the live-action

The most important and predictable change is in the age of the three protagonists. While the animated show is about three little girls, the live-action will be set during the adult phase. The Powerpuff Girls have been fighting crime for a long time and they regret not having had a normal life. The TV series will explore the consequences of the past, letting us see who the Powerpuff Girls were and who they became.

The second difference is the psychological aspect that the animated series could not afford. Blossom, the bravest and most conscientious of the three, managed to graduate. Bubbles, the sweetest one, has become a girl whose look hides an incredible intelligence. Buttercup, the strongest of the trio, tried to live a life in complete anonymity. The third and final difference is about a change in the tone of the story. We should forget the simplicity of the cartoon and remember that it will be a teen – fantasy product.

The three leading actresses

The Powerpuff Girls pilot, the live-action series produced for The CW, has found its three protagonists. Chloe Bennet (Agents of SHIELD), Dove Cameron (Descendants), and Yana Perrault (Jagged Little Pill) will be cast. The project was written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, while the director will be Maggie Kiley. Among the producers of the project will be Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, Kiley, Cody, and Mars in collaboration with Warner Bros.

The idea of the TV series is to create a sort of sequel to the cartoon with a more adult version of the young heroines. The three protagonists today are disillusioned twenty-year-olds who regret not having had a normal childhood because they spent it fighting crime. All this means that the actresses will need to possess important chemistry between them to make the project work. Among the protagonists of the cartoon, there were also villains, all very different from each other. For now, we do not know anything about the evil side. Instead, we believe the show can be interesting. The creative team behind the project certainly gives a lot of confidence.
