Production

Written by Geoff Johns, Dave Callahan, and Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 is the sequel of 2017’ Wonder Woman. Soon, after the release of the 2017’ Wonder Woman, the discussion of its sequel was talk of the town.  DC Films also took it seriously, and eventually, in December 2017, pre-production officially began in the United Kingdom.

The production of this film took place in different locations of the UK and the US. However, in December 2018, it was completed, but they captured a few additional shots in July 2019.

Storyline

The plot of the film revolves around the young Diana Prince. She lives quietly among mortals and has decided to live her life alone without having any emotional attachment with the world. Moreover, despite having superhero antics, she is not using it and keeping it a secret.

As a girl on the magical island of Themyscira, she competes in an athletics event against a woman twice her age.  However, after falling from a horse, she chooses a shortcut and remounts but misses a checkpoint. As a result, Antiope removes her from the competition.

In 1984, she worked at the Smithsonian (the group of Museum and Research Centre) while performing her heroic deeds secretly.

However, the twist in the plot came when new employee Barbara Ann Minerva arrived at the museum. She is timid and awkward and eventually comes to envy Diana. When the FBI asks the museum to identify the stolen antiquities Diana and Barbara notice one item that is much more than just an artifact and grants the wishes of those who came to contact with it. Unknowingly, Diana wishes for her dead lover Steve Trevor to be alive, and Barbara wishes to become like Diana.

Besides this, a businessman Max Lord also gets to know about that artifact and hopes to obtain and use the stone’s power to uplift your bankrupted business. Thankfully, Diana reunites with her deceased lover, and he reminds her about the need for emotional attachment.

When Max tricks Barbara and steals the artifacts, he creates chaos and destruction with this wealth. Moreover, his powers trigger worldwide instability. However, with Steve’s help, Diana comes to her full power and sets her to save the world. When she finds herself facing off against Max Lord and Cheetah, she musters all of her wisdom, courage, and strength.

The success of the film

When the first wonder woman was released in 2017, the face of the DC extended universe was presented in a lighter, yet gritty and quite dark mode. However, the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, has taken it to new heights. After its release on December 16, 2020, the film managed to get a lot of praise from the fans and critics. Some even call it one of the most dynamic DC movies. The popularity of WW84 is depicted from its box office earning as well. If we talk about its worldwide success, Wonder Woman 1984 has grossed $142.5 million and is also the most-watched straight to streaming film of 2020.
