A new and upcoming movie named Death on the Nile is approaching. It is a sequel adaptation of having mystery thriller by Kenneth Branagh taken from a screenplay by Michael Green. The official trailer has arrived that teased a wedding murder.

This new movie follows up Branagh’s film Murder on the Orient Express. The film is based on a novel of the same name by 1973 Agatha Christie. It is produced by Branagh, Ridley Scott, Judy Hofflund, and Kevin J. Walsh. This film franchise is the third screen attempt of Christie’s novel. The first attempt was the 1978 film, and the next was an episode of the TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot, released in 2004.

The plot of Death on the Nile

The movie revolves around an iconic private detective Hercule Poirot. He investigated a wedding murder and ensemble a list of suspects at the heart of the mystery aboard the titular train. The movie happened in the Poirot setting sail on a steamboat where people were invited to celebrate the wedding of a picture-perfect couple. When Hercule Poirot discovered a dead body on the board, he put all his skills into investigating the perpetrator behind the murder.

Murder on the Orient Express manifested as a mixed critical bag and proved a smash financial success. This motivated 20th Century Fox to develop a sequel that features Branagh (five times Oscar nominee) to reprise his role as a star and director. He has built a star-studded roster along with him, including other stellar stars like Tom Bateman, Gal Gadot, Annette Bening(four times Oscar nominee), Ali Fazal, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, and many others.

Its production ran from September to December 2019 and is finally gearing up to hit the theaters this February 11, 2022.

Some of its filmings happened in Longcross Studios in England and in Morocco. The 20th Century Studios has released a trailer of Death on the Nile. Its releasing time halted several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rape allegations against Hammer. The trailer of the movie is below.

The production team of the upcoming thriller decided to film with 65mm Panavision cameras. Christie selected several sites and inspired scenes that took audiences to the 1930s. Disney is steaming thoroughly to honor the larger-than-life vision behind the movie with a theatrical release of the film.

Hammer is excluded from the Film

This new film continues to the previous marketing for the movie as Hammer’s central role starts minimizing due to his sexual abuse allegation. Fans of Agatha Christie’s main novel and its 1978 film attempt can remind the importance of Simon Doyle in the story of the film, and the mystery driven by the murder left many concerns that no production house elected to reshoot his material. However, he had an extensive role and the star-studded cast members involved. So it was somewhat challenging to gather stars back amidst the pandemic than exclude him.

Branagh Intentions for Christie Cinematic Universe

It would be interesting to see how Death on the Nile will fare on the box office heading after its release in February, having the disputes of both Hammer’s sexual abuse assault and Letitia Wright’s anti-vaccination scandal at Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s set.

In the lead-up to the release of Murder on the Orient Express, Branagh manifested his intentions to develop an Agatha Christie cinematic universe. These intentions would be based on whether this new film is sustaining against Roland Emmerich’s Moonfall and Jackass Forever. All of these are dependent on the time of the release of this upcoming film on February 11, 2022.
