Despite the two years, Bucky spent in Wakanda, the 3rd episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has clarified that Bucky still has the lethal killer inside him. Power Broker helped him reunite with a Sokovian villain named Baron Zemo. The keywords that helped in controlling Bucky are no longer effective. That is the reason why bringing Bucky back to normal doesn’t seem to be a possible task.
Sam, along with Bucky, an ally in the 3rd episode, to prevent more super soldiers. They reach a pirate named Madripoor, where Bucky pretends to be The Winter Soldier while Sam acts as a sophisticated Smiling Tiger. This is against Bucky’s therapy which asks him to tell others He’s no longer The Winter Soldier. Only Zemo knows how to control Bucky now despite reducing the effectiveness of the keywords such as “Rusted, Longing, Seventeen,….”.
The Winter Soldier:
Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier took Bucky under his control using some psychological tactics. HYDRA helped Bucky become The Winter Soldier by convincing him that he’s a hero and will save the world. Bucky himself felt the same thing which ultimately converted him into a lethal assassin.
Before HYDRA captured Bucky in 1945, he was just a fighter. But the major concern is that Bucky has spent most of his life as Winter Soldier, not as Bucky Barnes. So, to get back to his original personality, he’ll need some time and therapy in Wakanda. What Falcon and The Winter Soldier has shown till now is that Bucky’s brainwashing can’t let him forget HYDRA. To compensate for what HYDRA did to him, he shouldn’t confront the person he was some time ago.
